Abstract

Social media has become one of the main platforms in everyday communication, influencing various aspects of life, including language use. This journal aims to analyze changes in the Indonesian language that occur in the context of social media and identify the implications for language use in general. This study uses discourse analysis methods and quantitative data analysis from various social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. The findings show that social media has introduced various new linguistic phenomena, such as word shortening, use of slang, and code mixing between Indonesian and English. These changes reflect evolving social dynamics, including the influence of globalization and the need for rapid communication. The implications of these language changes include impacts on standard grammar, the language learning process, and language preservation. This research recommends the need for adaptations in language education curricula and the development of guidelines for effective language use on social media. It is hoped that these findings will contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between modern communication technologies and language development.
