Research has been conducted on the design of a simple Fraunhofer diffraction experimental apparatus to determine the refractive index of cooking oil. The design of this simple experimental apparatus is intended to provide a reference for students or university students that practical work can be carried out using materials that are readily available. The main components in the design of this simple Fraunhofer diffraction experimental apparatus are He-Ne laser (as the light source), a razor blade (as a narrow slit), an object (i.e. cooking oil), cardboard (as a screen), a meter (as a scale), and a ruler (as a measuring tool). Based on the data collection and calculation, the refractive index of cooking oil was found to be 1,45. This value is considered to be in line with the refractivr index measurements of cooking oil using other equipment or methods.
